There are many factors to a child鈥檚 early learning, including parents, caregivers, and other children. Perhaps the factor with the largest scope is the early learning environment. The learning environment is the mix of spaces and context in which a young child grows and learns. The environment is often referred to as the 鈥渢hird teacher鈥 (after parents and educators) due to its importance in early learning. While the environment can refer to a child鈥檚 home, the outdoors, or a classroom, we will focus on the preschool as a learning environment.
Environments should be welcoming and interesting. Unfamiliar surroundings and people can provoke a stress response, which has the potential to be damaging to a child鈥檚 learning abilities. Having homey features in a classroom environment helps children feel more comfortable and can help their ability to learn. Once a feeling of comfort has been established, there can also be a variety of new and interesting areas and features 鈥 some level of uncertainty and novelty generates intellectual arousal and interest. With this money, we will be able to enhance our environment for classroom learning.
The math materials such as the balance scale and pattern beads will help the children with their math skills and help them to explore and learn for Kindergarten. The science materials such as the farm animals and their families and the zoo animals will help the children to explore and learn where and how different animals live. The books and felt board sets will help children with their school readiness goals and help them to develop early literacy skills. The music materials will support the children in learning about movement and different forms of music. The tape will help with their fine motor skills.
