Technology can truly take students on journeys around the world, while learning grade level standards. With iPads students can take virtual field trips, conduct research, and even interact with brand new content. Students can create videos to present reading, math content, and even create their own news reports. They can take screen shot photographs and then use those to create posters, magazine articles or movies on the iPad to share their understanding of the concept. With technology, anything is possible! With the increased focus on creating students that are college and career ready, our standards and daily learning have changed. In our school, there is a huge focus for students to use programs to help their reading and math skills, programs like iReady, Reading Plus, and Front Row, allow students access to higher level thinking that matches our changed standards.
These programs are fantastic, but with limited technology in the classroom, it's hard for all students to access these programs during the school day. In addition, many of my students don't have access to these programs at home.
