Currently the only way students are able to be read to is by teacher read aloud or using a reading website on a laptop. While laptops are a great use of technology they are often a distraction. Often students are found playing games on reading sites or reading books that are not at their level.
Students need to be read to and be engaged while listening. By providing mp3 players and headphones the students are able to listen to prerecorded books. While listening they can follow along in a hardcopy of the book. This helps students learn new words and phrases as well as improve fluency. Students can choose books at their level that are appropriate and aligned to standards.
