Scholastic News is a news magazine that educates students on current events at a reading level they can access. These high-interest magazines are a type of nonfiction text that will broaden our students' reading and writing repertoire. The online component of the Scholastic News subscription will allow students to further access the current events with videos and other online tools. My students will use these magazines to read about and write in response to things that are happening in our world. Our classroom discussions and writings around the Scholastic News articles will give each student the platform to share their perspective. Additionally, students will make personal connections with their world while connecting both reading and writing.
