My students need a variety of art supplies to use during our free choice time to explore new materials and experiment with the ongoing creative process. Art is one of the early symbol systems, using construction paper, pencils, crayons, and markers my preschoolers take their markings and turn them into representations of objects, actions, or ideas. Their artwork becomes more realistic and more imaginative.
Art is a tool for young children to explore and express themselves.
Children use their fine motor skills when given opportunities to manipulate art. Painting, drawing, molding and using tools with dough utilizes different muscle groups strengthening their fine motor area. Preschoolers will be able to use the art easel, as well as the art table to use these different materials.
Collage material such as buttons, feathers, pipe stems, foam shapes, pom poms, wiggly eyes, and other art supplies- glue, paper, scissors help build language development. Children socialize and have conversations about their artwork. Elaborate stories are created and comments are added to extend their own language knowledge.
