In my classroom I have several students that are dyslexic. This disability makes it very difficult for my students to build confidence with reading aloud. I have observed that in the general education classroom, most students with a reading disability do not want to read in front of others because they are embarrassed.
In my classroom I want to create a safe space for my students to come and read. I'm requesting supplies to create a reading nook including folding Moon Chairs, an Auditory Phone, and an area rug. This space will with chairs and a rug will allow my students to come and read aloud to either his or her self or others without the fear of being laughed at for mispronouncing a word, reading choppy, or not reading fast enough.
My goal with this reading nook is to create a space that allows my students to build their confidence with their reading skills and develop a love for reading!
About my class
