I teach a 3rd grade Collaborative Team Teaching (CTT) class which is home to students with various disabilities and their non-disabled peers. The CTT model of teaching strives for an inclusive environment for all students, co-taught by two teachers, one of whom has Special Education certification. Our students are hardworking, determined and energetic, but they face various obstacles and challenges in their education due to their special needs. Many of our students have diagnosed Speech and Language Impairments, which require them to express their learning in less conventional ways. Many of them are visual learners, but we do not currently have the appropriate resources in our high-poverty school to accommodate their differences and modify their instruction.
