A few months ago I decided to attend a yoga and social emotional program designed for teachers called Breathe for Change. This training will allow me to facilitate wellness and social emotional learning in my school and community. My plan is to teach yoga and social emotional learning to my students daily.
Yoga has been proven to be an effective behavioral intervention for students in school. Learning yoga and meditation will give them the tools they need to self-regulate their emotions and practice mindfulness. I would like to incorporate a safe way for our students to practice yoga and meditation. To do this, each student needs access to a proper mat to ensure effective and safe practice.
If students are not comfortable they will not be fully present. Meditation and yoga get them ready to start the day and help them unwind. There may be days when I will need to use yoga and meditation the middle of the day, if we need quiet our minds. Most importantly, yoga is a fun activity with benefits that will last them throughout their lives.
