This trip will forever change my kids' outlook on their social and emotional health. Our kids live in a low income area, and are socio-economically deprived. They barely have the means for new outfits or three square meals, never mind a trip they will never forget in their middle school experience. Our kids are more than resilient, and need certain life skills that will take them through high school, and hopefully beyond. The Discovery Museum offers an Adventure Park in my student's own hometown, which will allow them to expand their skill set on team building that they will need in their future. Their mindset is "every man for themselves," because that is how they were raised. They have been deprived of life skills many of us take for granted. We can teach them how to take notes, how to use a textbook, but we don't always get the opportunity to teach them something they will need in everyday life. Our kids are so smart and talented, and need the opportunity to experience something they will probably never get to do again, and this is our chance to provide it to them. They rarely ask for anything even though they need more than we can provide, and they deserve more than anything to go on a trip they will never forget.
