It's almost the end of the year for our third grade class, and summer is coming. For my students (many of who come from low-income backgrounds), summer could be a time without much reading. I want to prepare for this possibility and help my students to be able to have access to books. However, this project also goes beyond summer reading. Not only do I want to make sure that my kids have age-appropriate and culturally relevant stories for the summer months, but I want to ensure that they have the most positive last five weeks of school as possible.
This project will fund their summer reading opportunities as well as provide much needed classroom materials such as sentence strips, fidgets, and whiteboards. I hope to maximize the last five weeks with alternative ways of expressing knowledge and engaging with the classroom!
