The swing, ball pit, body sox, and other materials will provide an opportunity for students to participate in gross motor activities that will enable them to sit quietly when it is time to learn. The students in my classroom require access to materials and activities that stimulate their senses. Children are expected to complete multiple vigorous tasks throughout the school day. These tasks can become overwhelming for students with special needs, which can prevent them from being successful. Gross motor movement is self soothing method that allows students to relieve the feeling of being overstimulated. A sensory area provides a safe environment to explore and take in sensory information appropriately. When students are exposed to activities that allow for gross motor movement, they are less likely to present negative behaviors during academic time.
The donations for this project will allow the students to manage sensory seeking behaviors in a positive way, which will help them maintain focus in their academics.
These materials will provide the students with the opportunity to develop independent coping skills that can be used to decrease negative behaviors. I am looking forward to seeing my students in a calm and positive environment, so that they can focus on growing their academic and independent skills.
