I am requesting books to add to my class for nightly reading. My goal is to change the minds of students' perspective on reading. I want them to get excited about reading; the only way to do this is to find engaging books in which they can relate their lives to.
Creating book clubs where students read the same book is a great start to getting these students excited about reading. I want to make reading a fun and pleasurable experience for all my students. Each class will read the same book for nightly homework, which will help improve their fluency and reading strategies. We will have three class sets of different books. My goal is by the end of the school year we will read three novels in addition to the novels and stories that are embedded in our curriculum.
The three novels I have selected are Speak, Wonder, and The Boy in Striped Pajamas which all have plots that are relatable for my students.
