Flexible seating benefits students by allowing them choice, more physical activity throughout the day, and more control over their learning. No one wants to sit all day - especially energetic six and seven year olds. This project will allow me to transform my classroom and allow my students to channel their energy in a productive way.
Instead of sitting in a traditional desk and chair all day, students will be allowed to choose between various seating options: stability balls, wobbly chairs, sitting/laying on the floor, traditional chairs, and stand-up desks We will use our rug as a place to meet for whole group instruction and as an option for students to work throughout the day. We will use community supplies instead of housing them in desks, and our kind custodians will lower and raise various tables and desks for more seating and standing options!
Flexible seating will encourage students to work in a space that allows them to do their best work.
