After careful research and much contemplation, I have decided to try to incorporate Flexible Seating into my 3rd grade classroom. My hope is to channel my students' energy in a productive way.
Through my research I have found that physical activity--moving, stretching, and walking--can actually enhance the learning process. Teachers need to engage students in a greater variety of postures, including walking, lying down, moving, leaning against a wall or desk, perching, or even squatting. The brain learns best and retains most when the organism is actively involved in physical activity. These additional seating options will help my students do just that, learn better and retain more.
With these donations I will be able to bring more flexible seating options into my classroom. Some of these options include wobble chairs, stools, a few bouncy bands for their feet, and bed risers to raise desks for students who prefer standing.
