I would like to read the "Uglies" series with my students because it is a compelling series that will hold their attention. It touches on many issues that students this age experience. I have read them with other classes previously and they loved them. I had to order some copies from numerous public libraries including some out of state and still did not have enough copies for each student. I desperately need some for my classroom.
Through this book study, my students will improve their reading fluency and comprehension skills which so many have issues with. It will improve their school lives by giving them success. We will read these novels as a class. Students will do projects based on them in order to gain a better understanding of the stories and to experience the literature which they would probably not do otherwise.
Some of my students may not be able to read these books on their own, but they will still be exposed to them, get to hear them and experience them. So many of my students do not visit the public library so they miss out on what literature we do not have in the school library.
