I am requesting a large rug for our meeting area in the classroom. My students come to the meeting area to start our day together, and return frequently throughout the day to learn and share skills.
The rug is one of the most important gathering spots in our room. It is a place where we work together to improve our minds and our classroom community. We start our day with a morning meeting where we read the morning message and review our schedule. Much of our whole-group activities and instruction take place at the rug. Once students understand the task at hand, they move into smaller instructional groups or work on center based activities.
We also come to the rug to share our stories whether they be a writing task or a way to discuss problems that arises in our classroom community.
