Many of my students do not read for leisure. My high achieving students are the students that ready daily. It shows in their reading level and their work in my classroom. However, my low achieving students are the same students who do not read daily. These books will give them the opportunity to fall in love with reading. Statistically, students who read more will be more successful in life. Reading not only improves literacy, but it improves writing. In order for me to close the achievement gap, I need to build a love for reading. These books will help me shift my non-readers into lifelong readers. I will have students who resist, but if I have the right selection of books, I can find a way to subvert their notions about reading.
