My students are hardworking kids with big dreams. Many of them have very little experience outside of our area of town, so I try to expose them to as much as possible. I take pride in the fact that the skills I teach them and the equipment they learn how to use not only show them that a career in a STEM area is possible, but also will help them enter college with the same experiences and skills that other students will have. This project would not only benefit our school, but the other schools in our community as well.
I also sponsor a Science National Honor Society chapter and we do outreach with our elementary and middle schools as well as hosting a district-wide STEM night. A 3D printer and some of the products from it would be a great tool to set up and show younger kids the things that can be done with it and some of the items that have been created by students who used to be exactly where they are right now.
