My students are like the majority of their peers across the nation most of them don't choose to read for pleasure because there are a million other distractions, most of them requiring a power source. However, my students are also curious souls with an inherent need to know, and an endless supply of questions. Unfortunately, the questions they ask lately are, "Will this be on the test?" and "Are we done testing yet?" The focus of education these days is on the ability to score well on standardized tests; as a result, the association between reading and pleasure has taken a big hit.
