Picture yourself sitting at your desk in your office or a mandatory training. Now imagine sitting at your desk or training in a hard uncomfortable chair for 6 hours. Most adults are afforded the luxury of finding a more comfortable office chair, standing, or walking around. Most adults have the ability to create a work environment for themselves that allows them to be their most productive and successful selves. Many children have little control over their day. They are told what to do (or not do) and when to do it. Most classrooms are designed without taking into consideration the physical needs of students. However, in a classroom that allows children to have an opportunity to control where and how they sit, acknowledges that some students can't sit still, some learn better seated in comfortable positions, and gives them some control in their learning.
Flexible seating allows the classroom to become student oriented, improves behavior, participation, focus, and academic performance.
Allowing the opportunity to move around the room, under the guidance of the teacher, the students can make informed decisions about the best place they learn. Providing wobble chairs, stability balls, wobble cushions, bouncy bands and floor desks, will let the students be comfortable, and be in an environment that allows them to be their most productive and successful selves.
