Traditional desks are often ineffective. They can become messy and disorganized in a matter of days, moving them around a classroom always results in at least one major spill, and dragging a full desk across the room ultimately weakens the desk.
By using tables rather than desks, we can promote collaboration and organization more effectively. The use of tables not only promotes cooperative learning, they take up less space and allows for a fluid use of flexible seating.
Tables rather than desks create a feeling of community and make it much easier to work on cooperative inquiry based and "hands-on" learning tasks.
