My students want to make their own lives better and impact the lives of others. In order to do so, they need to better understand the global world around them.
Sharing in someone else's story is the first step in understanding their perspective of the world. Picture books can be used tenfold in my classroom to reach these young minds: as windows to the world around them, mirrors to make them feel less alone, mentors to become better writers, and shared experiences around which we can build our community. We will revisit these texts over and over throughout the year in order to learn from every facet they have to offer.
