In the beginning of the school year, students are assessed on their current reading level and then we set a goal and they work all year to reach their goal, celebrating milestones along the way. My classroom library is very underwhelming, and it does not hold much interest for students, which causes a lack of motivation to grow. When a classroom library has more books to offer, it helps motivate students to read and want to grow levels because each level holds new, exciting books for them. Providing more books to my students, will provide more opportunities. More opportunities to fall in love with reading, to find an escape, to travel the world, the gain new experiences, and to meet their goals! Many of my students come from homes with no books at all which is why it's so important to me that I have a luscious classroom library to offer them because they need to read in school during reading, then they borrow a book each night to read at home and complete their reading log. I want my students to love reading and to feel successful. I truly believe enhancing my classroom is a huge step in that direction. I have always loved reading so a very important part of my teaching is fostering the same love of reading in my students.
