My students really need flexible seating. Flexible seating allows them to be meta-cognitive about their learning process and about what really works best for them. Building the independence to truly understand how you learn while they are in kindergarten is a life skill I will be teaching my students with flexible seating. If we truly want to prepare our students for the real world, we need to put them in responsive, dynamic environments that reflect life outside of a traditional classroom. And what’s that life outside like? Full of choices, where adults are responsible for their own learning. Flexible seating gives students more of a choice to let them move more throughout the day, which is another great benefit in a kindergarten classroom.
