My AVID students are inner city kids with a hope of going to college one day. This program is designed for students in the "middle range." Because of this, they are not getting the attention they need. Below Basic students have administrators to look after them. Honors students have counselors and their teachers to look after them. Kids in the middle now have AVID to look after them. All AVID students want to go to college and by being in this program, teachers will do whatever it takes to get them into a four year college. This includes inspirational speakers, college visits, study skills, and guidance to a successful college track. Students at our school are trying very hard just to be able to make it to school. Just yesterday, two students were shot at around 6pm. One of them did not make it. It is a sad situation; some kids just want a future but do not know how to get there. AVID is their only way out.
