It is difficult for students to sit for 6 hours each day. I have already incorporated movement breaks and wiggle chairs in my classroom. Students are allowed to use a variety of fidget items as well. (Yes, I have even tried fidget spinners.)
I would like to engage more students by giving them the option to stand and learn. Today, students are allowed to stand during instruction whenever they believe it will help them focus. In a typical day I usually have 4 - 5 students standing at different times. The problem is that while the students are standing, the desk is too far away for them to be able to work efffectively.
While 2 standing desks only amounts to 1 hour of standing each week per student, it is a good place to start, and a worthy cause.
