I teach at a small elementary school in a rural town in Oklahoma. We are a Title I school and 83% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches. Most of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and are being raised by single parents or their grandparents. Many of my students come to school without their basic needs being met. They come to school wanting a safe place. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.
