All my students have different personalities; therefore, I feel they need a variety of seating options. Some are more comfortable standing at a table or seating on the floor, for this reason a traditional classroom is not fitting. I would like for my classroom to have a variety of options to better accommodate their needs.
When children are not comfortable in their classroom environment they are not able to focus. This could lead to problems in the classroom such as behavior or academic.
My seating options would consists of several tables at various heights and shapes. This would accommodate children who would prefer non traditional seating such a disks, yoga balls or wobbly stools. I would also use the various table shapes for small groups and experiments so that all the children would be able to be involved and see better than a traditional rectangle table.
As a teacher, I feel that I need to accommodate their needs to the best of my ability. This is why I have decided to work towards flexible seating.
