My goal is to start an after school program with six FIRST LEGO League Jr. teams. This will allow approx. thirty first and second graders to research, design, and create robots/moving models using LEGOs. In this afterschool program my students will be able to explore designing, beginning robotics, engineering, and basic coding skills. With the support of our district we have already purchased the LEGO WeDo Kits that are required, however we still need to purchase additional LEGO pieces to help inspire the students' creativity. Portable storage for everything is also needed.
These students have a natural ingrained curiosity; help me provide them with opportunities to expand their horizons and introduce them to the world of engineering.
LEGO League Jr. allows students to gain real world experiences in which they use the scientific method to collaboratively design and create working models/robots that address a given topic. LEGO League Jr. also enables the students to participate at regional expositions. LEGO League Jr. is the first step to beginning a robotics curriculum at the lower elementary level while fostering a life long love of learning. With this program my students will have access to a previously unexplored realm of possibilities; making the way for future inventors, scientists, coders, and engineers!
