Flexible seating is fairly new concept in mainstream classrooms, but it has been helping students with behavioral and special needs for years. Flexible seating includes stability balls, stand up desks, floor cushions, and wobble stools. All of these options are a great way to meet the needs of a diverse group of students.
Research shows that students greatly benefit from choices in seating. Just like adults don't like to be confined to one area, neither do children. In fact, it is even more imperative that young children are given the options to move! I will be the first teacher in my school to use a flexible seating classroom!
