My students need a carpet for common meeting area for daily whole-group interaction, collaboration, exploration, sharing and learning together. I have students in my classroom with a large range of learning learning abilities and styles. Meeting together on the rug at the beginning of the day and at various times throughout the day will provide my students with the opportunity to be part of a learning community and develop social skills as they work closely with other students. Activities on our rug will include reading together, listening to stories, math activities, and group work, as well as many other classroom projects. Our rug will be the foundation for our classroom community.
