These books will be great resources for our non-fiction unit on natural disasters! Our students are visual learners, and need all the support to learn about a topic. They will be able to use these books to conduct research, carry out conversations about issues in the world, and have a clear picture in their minds by using illustrations and other text features that articles don't include. In the past, I have used articles to teach students about natural disasters; however, it was difficult for students to have book club conversations without the most important tool: books! My co-teacher and I hope these books will engage our students to have richer and more meaningful conversations!
