Students LOVE choices and options within the classroom setting. Choices and options regarding classwork and activities, as well as seating, brings about a higher comfort level and engagement. This increased level of comfort and engagement can be easily felt and observed, when entering a classroom in which students are provided with flexible seating options.
The Wobble chairs and cushions will allow students to move around, wiggling and fidgeting when needed, while completing classroom assignments with paper and pencil or on their Chromebook. The chairs and cushions will also be used for active sitting, encouraging movement to balance and improve posture. The wobble effect makes sensory seeking children focus on how they sit, reducing fidgeting and helping to improve focus on the task at hand.
Students will be taking turns using the the chairs, cushions and lap desks, helping to build character traits such as being sociable and respectful and making responsible decisions. I also hope to incorporate the idea that everyone's needs are unique and one must be able to adjust to assist those around them. I look forward to bringing aspects of health, wellness and physical education into all of my students' academic school experiences.
