The learning centers I selected would make a big difference for my students. These centers will be able to reinforce each lesson with a student-led, age-appropriate learning activity. For example, after I teach a Science lesson about the five senses, with a learning center, I can allow my students to do a lab and they will be able to experience all five sense in a station. Or after completing a math lesson on fractions, I can allow my students to use materials in their learning centers to explain the lesson back to me or to their peers to reinsure they fully understanding the learning objective.
Students love it when they can teach others what they have learned! By having a learning center for every subject, including social studies and science, my first graders can learn hands-on. They can receive a concrete understanding of the lesson to go with their abstract understanding.
