With a school sensory room, my hope is to provide an environment that stimulates all the senses and heightens awareness and promotes relaxation. The students I work with are students with special needs. These students may find it difficult to stay focused for long periods of time.
Sensory rooms are specifically designed environments that create a wide range of sensory experiences for children with additional needs. Sensory rooms provide therapy, relaxation, learning and fun, development of hand-eye coordination, and understanding of 'cause and effect.' Throughout the school day, many students need small breaks to help them calm, refocus, and relax. A pod swing, bubble lamp, and glitter lap pad all help to accomplish this!
