The literacy carpet is a gathering place for Kindergartners to learn throughout their school day. It should be inviting, educational and comfortable. Lots of educational and social skills are developed during large and small groups. The students will learn literacy, math, science and social studies while on the carpet. They are able to dance and sing while respecting personal space. The literacy carpet is a staple in every kindergarten classroom. The carpet will provide comfort while learning these essential skills. If they are comfortable they will be able to focus and participate during group times. While learning on the carpet my students may be standing, sitting or laying down, and this is why a literacy carpet is essential for my classroom.
