My students have easy access to television characters, book characters and movie stars that don't look like them or reflect their race, religion, or ethnicity. I have spent my educational career working on building my classroom library to more accurately reflect the lives of the students I teach, but it's expensive.
I have compiled a diverse list of books, by a diverse group of authors, that will help inspire and encourage my students to be the change we need in this world and not send the message that they need to change to fit into this world.
My goal for this project is that every student in my classroom can easily find themselves reflected in the books in my room and that they will know it is a welcome, safe place to learn and grow.
