Everyone loves a good story, whether reading it yourself or having someone read to you. Kids especially love to be read to. I make it a point in my classroom to read aloud everyday. These big books will help my students, especially my ESOL students(90% of my class), become engaged in the story. They will be able to follow along as I point to each word and picture. They will be able to become familiar with the repeated phrases inherent in these books which will allow them to read along with me. I can then move these books into a center where they can work with a partner on shared reading activities. The instant learning centers extend their learning with focused practice on letter sound and word recognition during reading workshop.
