My students come from low-income neighborhoods and face many challenges inside and outside of school that may include things like various living situations, lack of food and clothing, and limited support in their education. With so much stress already occurring in their young lives, coming to school is a safe haven for them as they do not have to worry for a brief moment what is happening at home or in their neighborhood. When they come to my room they know they are loved, needed, and can be fed or even clothed if needed. These students are eager to learn and succeed in life. They love to laugh, read and be read to, use technology, and have time and space to move. I want my students to receive as many positive learning experiences as possible in my classroom that they can take and use in their personal lives.
