I teach 5th grade at Oak Springs Elementary in the East Side of Austin, TX. The community that our school serves is 99% low-income, single parent, foster kid, homeless, and more. Although the students are very bright, their ability to shine can be clouded by outside factors. Sometimes it is a daily struggle to keep students motivated.
Funding at our school is limited due to low enrollment, which is why many of our teachers are forced to find alternative methods to provide our students with the materials they need to be successful. They are hungry for motivation and creative outlets to express themselves.
