Because of the challenges brought on by the pandemic, students have had to deal with many adult situations this year. Students are now being asked to return to in-person learning after months of being home. With these big changes, come big feelings.
During daily mindfulness practice, students will gain the skills they need to monitor and control their own emotions through the use of breathing exercises, yoga poses, and hands-on tools that will guide their minds and refocus their learning.
Each student sensory kit will include pliable putty (Play-Doh) and bendable Wikki Stix to encourage creativity and imagination, a few fidgets to steady busy hands, and a deck of breathing and calming exercises (that will be modeled for students) so they can have them "at the ready" for a variety of situations.
With the use of these tactile social/emotional tools, students will learn to identify and manage their own emotional health using hands-on sensory objects to help focus their mind and guided breathing exercise cards to regulate heart rate and in turn manage big emotions.
