Working collaboratively in small groups is vital to success in the classroom and in life. My students have a difficult time knowing and learning how to work with others in a respectful way. Being part of a teacher led small group helps my students progress socially and academically.
This year's county wide focus for English language arts is to incorporate a teacher led small group into daily classroom instruction and having a horseshoe table makes this possible in my room. Each of my four classes range from 25-30 students leaving very little extra table space for an additional group. I am excited about adding the small group component into my daily lessons, but am concerned about "where" I can make it happen with my existing classroom furniture.
