There are all different learning styles, which also means there are all different comfort zones in learning. Flexible seating allows students to focus on their learning in a setting that is personally comfortable. Some of the items we are requesting are wobble chairs and exercise balls for those students that need to move around, yoga mats for those that prefer to lie down, bean bag chairs for those that want to feel like they are lounging around, and circle discs for those who like to sit or kneel.
We are also requesting bouncy bands to put around the legs of the chairs to fidget with and lap desks for the students who prefer to not sit at a desk. We will also be raising desks for students that like to stand and taking legs off of desks for students that like to sit on the floor. The students will be given an opportunity to try out all the flexible seating options and choose the one that the feel is the most comfortable for them to be master mathematicians and scientist.
When students are comfortable in their surroundings, they are able to open themselves up and receive tender, loving care that teachers want to give. When students feel loved, they are more accepting and willing to do the work that is required for them to have mastery level learning. I would like to provide this holistic environment for my students and help them reach that level of mastery.
