I work in a New York City title 1 public school, in one of the most diverse cities in the world Jackson Heights, Queens. I am a visual arts teacher teaching grades pre-k through 5th. I teach "art on a cart" which is a whole lot of fun! I love the diversity of my students, including the diversity in age and the diversity in culture. I love to teach art history as well as "studio art" and I especially like to expose my students to as many different art mediums as possible. It is important for students to understand that art is many things, not just one specific medium or subject. Every student is good at something in art, we just need to figure out what that something is for each individual student. Every class I teach is an opportunity for student exploration and creativity, for students to collaborate and to respond to each others work. All while creating a fun, safe, and respectful learning environment.
