Students need to move. Traditional classrooms can be restrictive and uncomfortable with their hard chairs and rigid desks. Flexible seating choices allow students to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand as they work, which in turn increases oxygen flow to the brain and develops core strength.
Flexible seating helps students stay alert and focused. Engagement and retention are higher, and each student learns how to find their own body's best way to stay calm, focused and productive. Some students work best while resting their feet on bouncy bands, and others need the sensory input of wobble chairs and yoga balls to maintain focus. Still other students work best lying on the floor with a clipboard. With a flexible seating environment, I would be able to meet each child's individual learning needs.
