My classes serve students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, and specific learning disabilities. They typically read at a third grade level and many struggle with basic phonics and number sense. Despite their challenges, both in and out of the classroom, my students are resilient. My class thrives on creative and fun lessons, flexibility, and a lot of positive reinforcement. From the minute they step through the doorway, I encourage them to focus on their potential and growth. They may not be able to change their past, or their daily challenges, but I can teach them to respond to whatever life may throw at them. I can help them build their self confidence. I can equip them with the tools for success that they will need. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I hope to inspire my students to continue on a path of academic excellence, and success in life.
