STEM in First grade is an introduction to a world of possibilities through imagination and creation. Incorporating STEM activities in the classroom will give my students many opportunities to engineer and design their greatest ideas.
This project will help my students gain confidence in various problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, curiosity, and decision making skills. These materials will help guide my students with furthering their math and science skills, while also exploring various hands on experiences. We will be using the magnets to create different models and designs, interpreting whether our creations can hold solid objects or withstand weight. We will be using the interlocking flakes to explore cause and effect, creating different models and documenting whether the creations we created can stand upright, then analyzing why they did or didn't. The straw connecters are going to be used for creating and designing buildings, using different quantities and proportions, while analyzing if they can withstand the height that we build them up to.
By the end of the day, I want my students to feel confident and I want them to be excited about the hard work they put into their school day.
