Rekenrek bars are like the old fashioned abacus used for counting. This tool teaches kids computational procedures to improve math skills by making mental images of numbers. Rekenrek's provide learners with the visual models they need to discover number relationships and develop a variety of addition and subtraction strategies, including doubles plus or minus one, making tens, and compensation, thereby leading to automaticity of basic facts. The movable, colored beads encourage learners to think in groups of fives and tens, helping them to explore and discover a variety of addition and subtraction strategies. The racks will be used to support the development of number sense.
