I teach in a fifth grade classroom with 25-30 students every year. This past year, we implemented a blended learning environment. In this learning environment we combine online digital media and traditional teaching methods. In addition, every year my classroom is the inclusion room in which we have several students with special needs. We have worked very hard to create a blended learning environment that incorporates a beneficial use of technology to allow students to be more prepared for the real world. During this time, students learn how to perform, design, and carry out research projects with each other or individually. Lastly, we have used this blended learning environment most specifically within our literacy block. In addition to the research projects, students participate in small book clubs, small group time with the teachers, and independent work that is differentiated by their individual needs.
