Just like many adults, many students would prefer to work in comfortable environments. Research has shown that students need the opportunity to be physically active and move around throughout the day in order to be focused and engaged. Providing flexible seating options, such as stability balls, yoga mats on the floor, standing tables, wiggle stools, t-stools, and comfortable couches and chairs, will allow students to make choices that best fit their needs as learners.
Our students will be able to work with seating options that allow them to focus and stay comfortable. Both of which are needed to produce quality work. When students are able to choose comfortable places to work, focusing on and engaging with tasks will become much easier. More focused learners will lead to an increase in student productivity. It may also help decrease behavior issues that arise as the result of students not being fully engaged. At the end of the day, we want our students to be excited to learn and grow. Incorporating flexible seating options into the classroom is a great step in setting our students up for success!
